Education Report
The Scottish Government has released its report on
the Delivery of Rural Education. The KLB High
School Parent Council took part in the call for
evidence.

Shinty
at St Andrews
The KLB shinty team visited St Andrews recently to
participate in a Shinty Sixes tournament along with
teams from elsewhere in the UK and from as far away
as the USA. Click

Help raise money for Cancer Research UK by joining a
5km run/jog/walk in Kinlochbervie. Open to all
- ladies, gents, children. Race starts at
12:00 noon. Limited places available.

On Saturday 23 March the school was the place to be
for Chocolate Tea - home baking, mugs of hot
chocolate, raffle, silent auction, chocolate
crepes... An incredible £831.70 was
raised to help fund the school trip to France in
June.

We raised £291.60 for Comic Relief on Red Nose Day
(15 March 2013). The pupils (led by Scott
Paterson) organised a Wear Red to School Day, Let's
Dance for Comic Relief and Head Shaving. Many
thanks to former pupil NIcola Morrison of Miss Nxys
Hairdressers for volunteering her time to do the
head shaving.

Mrs Mann is sending careers information to all
pupils via their GLOW email accounts. This
includes information on modern apprenticeship
opportunities, job vacancies and Open Days for
college and university. All pupils (and their
parents) can access GLOW from their home computers.

The Parent Council organised a quiz night in
December which raised £130 towards the French trip

Fundraising
Several times during the school year, we put on
fundraising events. So far in 2012-2013, we
have raised £624 for various charities and £672 for
school funds. Details can be viewed by

The concert was a great success. Thank you to
everyone on stage and all the helpers. Thank you too
to everyone in the audience who sang with such
enthusiasm and supported our fundraising efforts.
The donation bucket at the door raised £236 for the
Joanne F. Fotheringham Memorial Fund for CRY
(Cardiac Risk in the Young). This money will
directly benefit young people in the Highlands and
our pupils will be given the opportunity for cardiac
testing in the spring.
We also raised £190 from the raffle for school
funds.

Christmas jumper to school. A total of £100
was collected for Save the Children.

Ms Nikki Nairn, our music teacher, has started up
two choirs that have proven to be incredibly
successful. The School Choir practises twice a
week while the North West Communities Choir meets
Wednesday evenings 7:30 - 9:00 pm. New members
are always welcome. Both choirs will be
performing at the Christmas musical night at the
Village Hall on Wednesday 19th December at 7:00 pm.

This year we raised £288.36 for Children in Need.
The event was organised by Laxford - one of our 3
house groups. In addition to paying £3 for the
pleasure of not wearing school uniform, they sold
cakes at morning interval and ran "hunger games" in
the afternoon where student/staff teams competed in
various food games such as being the first to eat a
lemon.

The
Parent Council held a Soup & Sweet on 1 September
which raised an incredible £482.50 for school funds.
Many thanks to all parents and community members who
helped make the day a success by contributing food
and raffle donations and helping on the day.
