Notifying the School of Pupil Absences

Parents are reminded to phone the school on the morning of a pupil absence.  If the absence is for only 1 or 2 days then no note is required - if the phone call is made.  (S6 are able to self-certify.)

 Bulb Campaign

All families should have received information on our fund raising sale of bulbs (if not please contact the school).  Please send in your order by Monday 26 January at the very latest - that’s only another week or so.  All members of the community can place an order so please spread the word!  The bigger the order the more money for school funds.

@ the edge

Two of our S1 pupils, Chelsey Ross and Michael Forbes were filmed during the summer for a programme call “@ the edge".  This will be shown on the CBBC channel on 6 February at 6.25 pm.

 Staffing

The second advert for the English post resulted in three new applications.  It is likely that interviews will take place in a few weeks but meantime Mrs Janet Adams continues her work as supply teacher.  Mr John Gair’s resignation will now take effect at the end of January and a specialist supply teacher has already been arranged for 3 of the 4 days of PE a week.

 Charity Events

The fund raising by Ms Hegarty’s RME classes continues!  Over £250 was raised by S2 in their Zip the Lip campaign and there were notable contributions from a coin line organised by S3 and a class concert with S1.  All this was added to the staff Christmas card fund and a staff/pupil dress-up-for-Christmas-day to give a grand total of just under £400.  The money was divided equally between CHAS (children’s hospice) and Save the Children.  Well done to all involved!

Broadband

If 100 residents of Kinlochbervie register on-line at www.hie.co.uk/broadband or phone 0800 027 2327 then BT will carry out the necessary modernisation to bring broadband to the local exchange.  (It seems that similar numbers would be required to trigger broadband for Durness and Scourie.)  Broadband would be a huge benefit to the school, greatly improving the speed of access to the internet, now increasingly used in the teaching of many subjects.  However, as the number required to trigger broadband is far higher than the number of families directly involved with the school, please go to your extended family, friends and neighbours to encourage them to register also.  Registering your name does not place you are under any obligation.
