Staffing

Mr Rik Parke has been appointed full time permanent teacher of English. He has already started teaching mainly S1-3 classes on Mondays to Wednesdays but will officially take up post on 10 May. To minimise the disruption to pupils' preparation for exams, Mrs Janet Adams will continue teaching most S4-6 classes (on Wednesdays to Friday) until Study Leave starts. Our thanks to Janet for her very valuable input to the English department and for providing stability until the permanent appointment was made.

Miss Heather MacNeil has been appointed permanent teacher of PE, starting at the beginning of the new session. She will also take over the duties of Active Sports Coordinator (formerly School Sports Coordinator). Miss Sue Smith will continue with much of the PE teaching meantime.

Bulb Campaign

A grand total of over £400 was made - far exceeding our target sum. Many thanks to all those involved in this fund raising. We still have two packets of unclaimed bulbs - was anyone short of either Leococoryne or Gladiolus? All the bulbs delivered seem to have been very good quality and excellent value - look out for the next campaign (snowdrops, tulips, daffodils, etc.) likely to be some time around October.

Broadband

The trigger level of over 100 interested customers has been reached and we now await for BT to announce when the exchange will be upgraded.

0870 Service and School ClosuresIt is unlikely we will have another closure until next winter but the 0870 service did seem to have problems with the line being busy for long periods. This information was passed on to Highland Council and presumably they will raise the matter with the provider to ensure there is no repeat. The weather on the second day of the two day closure showed enough improvement that would have allowed us to open. However, the decision was taken in Inverness that transport to all school in affected areas would not operate making it pointless to open.

School Grounds

Norman Dunsire may no longer work here as supply teacher of technical but he continues to support the school. He has constructed another two planters to match those he had already made for the front of the school. He has also built benches for the grounds, again providing the materials himself, and has even provided the surrounding paving. A huge thank you is due to Norman!
