School Uniform
The responses from parents have now been analysed.
90% agreed with the school insisting on plain black trousers (with girls
having the option of a black skirt). The
remaining 10% either did not have or did not express an opinion. No
parent was against this idea. The
most common comment made was along the lines of “if you have a policy on
school uniform then stick to it”.
A questionnaire was completed by pupils (many thanks
to Mrs Carter and Matthew MacDonald). More
than two thirds of pupils thought uniform was a good idea or “were not fussed
either way”. The most popular
suggestions for further uniform options were hooded tops, zipped tops, shirt
& tie and jeans. Most pupils say
that most days in addition to their sweatshirt, they wear trainers, trousers
(although a significant minority wear track suit bottoms) and a tee shirt.
Pupil Council has suggested that black be an alternative colour for polo
shirts in addition to the current white.
The school has asked for samples of zipped tops and
hooded top. Should these prove to
gain approval from pupils, then from August onwards it is probable the school
uniform will be as follows.
1.
2.
Plain black trousers (a skirt would remain an option for girls).
No other option would be acceptable so e.g. no white stripes or flashes.
3.
White school polo shirt or
absolutely plain white or plain black tee shirt or polo shirt or
plain white shirt or blouse. No
other option would be acceptable so e.g. football tops could not be worn under a
sweatshirt (although they may still be changed into for PE or lunch time
football, etc.).
The intention would be that the above options must be
adhered to. The school would keep a
supply of sweatshirts and trousers that may be borrowed for a day at a time on
the production of either a letter of explanation from a parent or
£1 to cover the cost of cleaning. If
no letter or money is immediately available, the pupil would complete a short
detention the same day but would still have to change into the school clothes.
Any borrowed clothes would have to be returned by

A fantastic £271.70 was raised for Comic Relief.
The theme for the day was shirts and ties and the range worn by pupils
and staff was varied, colourful and at times in very bad taste!
Aerosol
Deodorants
Aerosols should not be used in school – pupils are
encouraged to wash after exercise or to use some other type of deodorant.
There have been many occasions when the quality or aerosol used could
have caused major breathing problems for our asthmatic pupils.
Staffing
Mrs
Vicki Carter has intimated she will be leaving the school this summer.
This is a disappointment as she has made such an impact in the school and
in the community. The vacancy is now
being processed but it has been agreed that the advertisement will be a large
box type rather that the usual single line in a list of all
