Minutes of the Pupil Council Meeting
10 and 23 March 2009
Combined Minutes of the S1-S3 and S4-S6 Pupil Council Meetings
1. Pupil Motivation
Dr Smith asked reps for their views on how staff could help motivate pupils to learn more. The following is a summary of their responses, not in any order of priority.
Staff should be interested in ALL pupils.
Short term targets are very useful.
ALWAYS use praise, even for high achievers.
Use a mixture of teaching styles.
ALL teachers should use Green Cards equally and fairly.
Provide variety to the activities in each lesson.
Learn through doing, not just listening, not just book based.
Use humour well.
Be relaxed but be tough when needed.
The school should have some system that rewards most pupils but not the poorly behaved.
Teachers should think their subject is important but realise other subjects are also important
