Leanna Galt and Nicholas Holden from Fortrose

For the past few months, high school pupils from throughout the Highlands have been travelling to Moray Firth Radio in Inverness for hands-on “radio skills” training.  After an initial set of workshops, ten young people were selected by MFR broadcasters to proceed to the next stage.  The final 10 were felt to have that “extra sparkle and drive to survive in a broadcasting environment”.  They were divided into 3 groups and challenged to produce a magazine-style radio programme over 4 days.  Two KLB pupils made the final cut of 10:  Eoghan O’Driscoll and Siobhan Macleod.

Eoghan and Siobhan
Friday December 8th marked the culmination of all their work.  Danny Gallagher, Managing Director of Moray Firth Radio, judged the projects and awarded the top prize to “On Christmas Traditions” put together by KLB’s Siobhan Macleod and two pupils from Fortrose Academy near Inverness .  Mr Gallagher commended especially the group’s excellent introduction, their interviewing skills and use of music and the creation of a piece that motivated the listener to want to hear more.
